Why is it??

When I'm out in the mountains, riding Sunny and enjoying the sunshine, I think of a million things to write about., and I feel very clear about what I want to say...
But then, when I come home, and I sit down with my laptop, I can't think of a durned thing??

  1. Probably the same reason I think of the most awesome posts when I'm about to fall asleep, and I'm totally sure I'll never forget such awesome thoughts ... and then I do.

  2. HA! Yes. Just before I fall asleep is another time that I have brilliant thoughts... that never get written down.

  3. And you wonder why my blog seems lame at times! I don't even have those moments out in the mountains to think about things!

  4. I have NEVER said your blog is lame... I've just said I wanted you to write more... That's very different. :)

  5. Why even try to express the experience of what you feel at those times in words? Maybe you should just bring your camera and take pictures of the things/places/natural beauty that give you so much clarity. (Or, if you are so inclined, bring canvas, pallet, brushes, etc, and paint or draw what you see and feel.) The picture of you on your horse with the Wasatch range in the background probably told me more about who you really are than anything you could have written in words. After all, words are used as much to conceal or justify as to reveal or explain.

  7. Dear Jen - Far from being brilliant, I am just a senior, retired, and irrevocably gay former Mormon, former RM, former BYU student, etc., who was fortunate enough to serve his mission in an East Asian land where it was generally understood (at least, by an older generation) that aesthetics was more important than dialectics. Which is to say, one is more likely to achieve Nirvana (enlightenment) by pure experience than by logical argument. Arts and crafts (photography, painting, sculpture, gardening, ikebana, poetry, etc.) are much closer to pure experience than any dogma or so-called scripture. Each picture you truly love is worth at least a thousand words.
